          Lacquer combines almost limitless freedom ofcolour with intensity and a smooth finish.Thelacquering technique consists of successivelydepositing six thin layers of lacquer on a brassbase plate.
          A colourless varnish is then applied to give thecolour or shade all of its depth and shine.Oncethe varnish is dry, the surface of the dial ispolished to magnify the colour; the dial is thenready to be pad printed and receive its appliques.

          The Rolex fluted bezel is a mark of distinction.Originally, the fluting of the Oyster bezel had afunctional purpose: it served to screw the beze!onto the case helping to ensure thewaterproofness of the watch.
          lt was therefore identical to the fluting on thecase back,which was also screwed onto the casefor waterproofness, using specific Rolex tools.Over time, the fluting became an aestheticelement, a genuine Rolex signature feature.Today the fluted bezel is a mark of distinction, inplatinum on this Day-Date 40.
